Lachute – Montreal area.
For the second year in a row, Les Aliments Lebel Foods won the Canadian Grand Prix New Product AwardsTM last June 15th in Toronto. Its new probiotic frozen yogurt mini cone, from brand Original Augustin placed first in the dessert category.
In 2010, its frozen novelty nut and peanut free Double Delight from brand Original Augustin also received this award for the same category.
Founded in 1986 by Gaetan Lebel, president and general manager, the company is the only producer of ice pops in the province.
Its success depends largely on the original recipe of ice cream made by his dad, Augustin Lebel for the Kenogami dairy of Saguenay in the 1930’s.
Les Aliments Lebel Foods expanded twice. First in 1997, when the company purchased the Laiterie Lowe Inc. facilities in Lachute, and in 1999-2000 when establishing and building a modern manufacturing plant. In addition to allowing the company to meet the growing demand for frozen desserts, this new facility made it possible to develop new products.
Another expansion took place in 2008, when the company acquired a new machine for manufacturing extruded frozen desserts. This investment enabled Les Aliments Lebel Foods to develop a niche of high-quality ice cream products.
In January 2009, the facilities were expanded to become the largest plant for manufacturing ice cream and frozen desserts in Quebec
