Who we are
Founded in 1996 by members of the industry, Aliments du Québec is an organization whose mission is to promote Quebec agri-food products. Promotional activities, brand identification at the points-of-sale and special events are all ways to inform consumers about the availability of Quebec food products.
We thus satisfy a need expressed by 7 out of 10 consumers’ who believe that it is important to identify Quebec food products at the points-of-sale.
Our mission…
Aliments du Québec is the holder of the unique label of origin for Quebec food products, recognized by the whole agri-food industry, we manage two certifications: Aliments du Québec and Aliments préparés au Québec.
Our mission is to contribute concretely, through promotional activities, brand identification, and consumer education to substantially increase the market share of Quebec food products on the domestic market.
New definitions
Aliments du Québec
Can be considered an « Aliments du Québec », any product entirely made from ingredients sourced in Quebec or composed of a minimum of 85% of main ingredients from Quebec. All the processing and packaging activities must be done in Quebec.
Aliments préparés au Québec
Can be considered an « Aliments préparés au Québec », any product processed and packaged entirely in Quebec. When the main ingredients are available in Quebec in sufficient quantities, they must be used.
History
- 1996 : Founded in 1996 by members of the industry with the sheer will to increase the sales of Quebec Food products on the internal market.
- (1996-1997) 1st phase: planning phase to develop the strategy and the first definition of a Quebec food product “Aliments du Québec”.
- (1997-1998) 2nd phase: creation of a logo to help consumers identify Quebec food products and convince the members to identify their product.
- (1998-2001) 3rd phase: In 2005 – extension of the brand to include processed foods “Aliments préparés au Québec”
- 2002 – Marks the end of a three year plan: the results for powerful activities at points-of-sale confirmed Aliments du Québec in its role as custodian of the only trademark of origin for Quebec food products recognized by the whole agri-food industry.
- 2006 – New certification for « Aliments préparés au Québec »
- 2009 – Launching of a new database to identifying products at points-of-sale offering distributors a list of certified products.
