Ile-Ash-Island

Île-ASH-Island cheese has a soft, bloomy rind. It is cut in its center by a line of vegetable ash. It has the smell of mushrooms and fresh cream as well as the sweet flavors of cream and salted butter. This tiny territory is located in the Richelieu, near Noyan and Lacolle in the Montérégie Ouest. Its name probably dates back to the beginning of the English Regime and is explained by the presence of many ash trees that grow on the island. This island was integrated into the network of fortifications erected by the British during the Anglo-American War of 1812-1814. There is a redoubt and a battery of cannons. A few bridges link the island to the mainland since the end of the 19th century. A little jewel to visit.
